A student-centered approach, in which the instructor facilitates students’ interactive engagement with course content and classroom activities, requires an understanding of how various motivators may influence diverse learners. In this Teaching Academy, our goals are to (1) clarify the connection between motivation and learning; (2) identify strategies to promote student motivation; and (3) better understand the (often unintentional) practices that may hinder student motivation.
