Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Scholar-in-Residence Program

Program Overview

The Teaching for Learning Center (T4LC) is announcing a new Scholar-in-Residence program in the T4LC to advance the scholarship and scholarly dissemination of emerging best practices for teaching in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI). We have two Scholar-in-Residence opportunities for this period, each with a different emphasis described below.

Scholar 1: Emerging Best Practices

This new T4LC AI Innovation Scholar will research new and emerging AI tech’s potential for teaching and learning. The Scholar will choose from a menu of deliverables to serve the community of Mizzou educators. They will choose more than one in consultation with the T4LC director to determine the scope of work.

Menu of deliverables

  1. Produce a regular blog on the T4LC website that highlights teaching uses and caveats for AI.
  2. Produce regular podcast episodes on the T4LC website that highlight teaching uses & caveats.
  3. Produce a YouTube video series that highlights teaching uses & caveats.
  4. Conduct round-table discussions in the T4LC.
  5. Present at T4LC conferences.
    *Note, Our Scholar is encouraged to invite external scholars (national and international) to collaborate (or contribute) for interviews, etc., on any of the options above.

Scholar 2: Student Literacy & Ethics

This new T4LC AI Innovation Scholar will research new and emerging methods for raising student literacy with AI and supporting their knowledge of ethical use of AI in the learning process. The Scholar will choose from a menu of deliverables to serve faculty with this need. They will choose more than one in consultation with the T4LC director to determine the scope of work.

Menu of deliverables

  1. Produce Canvas modules for faculty to adopt in their courses on this topic.
  2. Produce a YouTube video series for faculty to adopt on this topic.
  3. Produce a digital learning game for faculty to adopt on this topic.
  4. Conduct round-table discussions in the T4LC.
  5. Present at T4LC conferences.

*Note, Our Scholar is encouraged to invite external scholars (national and international) to collaborate (or contribute) for interviews, etc., on any of the options above.

Benefits: 

Each Scholar-in-Residence earns a taxable $10,000 additional pay stipend for their time and effort in this 10-month role.

Each Scholar-in-Residence may have access to additional funds for E&E such as for software, computer/tablet, and/or travel to a relevant conference.

Eligibility Criteria:

To participate in this 10-month AI Innovation Scholar-in-Residence program (March 2024-December 2024) and earn the taxable $10,000.00 additional pay stipend and E&E funds, applicants must be a regular, full-time faculty member at MU, either teaching faculty or tenure-track faculty. Visiting or other conditional appointments do not qualify for this program.

As this fellowship entails a substantial commitment, and to ensure that everyone is aligned and invested, we will need confirmation from your supervisor approving your participation. An email approval is acceptable and is to be submitted via the application.
